Guide

What this on-page SEO checker looks at

The tool downloads the HTML of the page you enter, the same way a search engine crawler does, and checks the on-page signals that affect how Google and AI search tools understand and show your page.

Indexability

HTTP status, redirects, HTTPS, meta robots, X-Robots-Tag, canonical tag and robots.txt rules for this URL.

Content & headings

Title tag and meta description length, a single H1, heading order from H1 to H6, word count, language and mobile viewport.

Images & links

Missing image alt text, internal and external links, and links with no anchor text.

Schema markup

JSON-LD structured data: which schema types are on the page and whether each block is valid JSON.

Social sharing

Open Graph title, description and image, plus the Twitter card tag used for link previews.

AI search readiness

Whether an llms.txt file exists and whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended are blocked in robots.txt.

How the SEO score is worked out

Each check has a weight based on its impact. Critical issues, such as a noindex tag or a missing title, count more than minor ones, such as a missing Twitter card. A passed check earns full points, a warning earns half and a failed check earns none. The score is the share of points earned, out of 100.

A score above 80 means the on-page basics are in good shape. Rankings also depend on content quality, backlinks, site speed and competition, which a single-page check cannot measure. For those, a full technical SEO audit covers the whole site.

Frequently asked questions

Is this on-page SEO audit tool free?

Yes. It is free to use and needs no sign-up. You can run up to 20 audits per hour.

Why does my page show different results from what I see in the browser?

The tool reads the HTML your server sends, before JavaScript runs. If your titles, headings or content are added by JavaScript, search engines may see them later or not at all, so the result shows what a crawler sees first.

What is a good title tag and meta description length?

Aim for a title of about 30 to 60 characters and a meta description of about 70 to 160 characters. Google may rewrite either one, but staying in these ranges keeps them from being cut off in search results.

Does a page need only one H1?

One clear H1 that describes the page is best practice. Google can handle more than one, but a single H1 followed by H2 and H3 subheadings in order makes the page easier for both search engines and AI tools to understand.

What is llms.txt and do I need one?

llms.txt is a Markdown file at the root of a site that summarises the business and lists its key pages for AI models. It is optional and not a Google ranking factor, but it is easy to add. You can make one with our llms.txt file builder.

Can the tool check a whole website?

No, it checks one page per audit. Run it on your home page and your most important service pages. For a full crawl of every page, ask us for a free website audit.
